2017 Subaru BRZ vs 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata near Philadelphia, PA

If you are looking for an affordable yet exciting sports car, two great options include the 2017 Subaru BRZ and the 2017 Mazda MX-5. The MX-5 is more commonly known as the Miata. The BRZ has a coupe body style while the MX-5 Miata is offered with a soft-top or retractable hard top. The BRZ has gained some great new styling updates for 2017, as well as a new steering wheel with conveniently located buttons, upgraded power equipment, and new limited edition options. The MX-5 Miata was redesigned in 2016, and for 2017 Mazda is debuting a retractable fastback model called the MX-5 RF.

2017 Subaru BRZ Power & Handling

The BRZ is incredibly fun to drive, as Subaru has worked to provide a dynamic, driver-oriented experience. The BRZ can handle corners with ease, and the standard six-speed manual transmission is engaging and exciting to drive. The optional automatic transmission is impressive as well and will offer fast shifting for a smooth performance. The 2017 BRZ is powered by a 2.0-liter flat-4 "boxer" engine, which produces 205 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque with the automatic transmission. The manual transmission will instead offer up to 205 horsepower and 156 lb-ft of torque. Subaru has equipped the BRZ with a rear-wheel drive system for the ultimate driver-oriented performance.

2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata Power & Handling

The 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata will come equipped with a 2.0-liter inline-4 engine, and it will produce 155 horsepower and 148 lb-ft of torque. It comes standard with a six-speed manual transmission, though Mazda offers an alternative six-speed automatic transmission. The vehicle features a rear-wheel drive system. Certain models of the MX-5 Miata will feature a limited-slip differential and a sport-tuned suspension.

2017 Subaru BRZ Features & Design

Subaru offers their BRZ coupe in two trim levels called the Premium and Limited. The BRZ is beautiful to look at both inside and out, and the standard amenities will include a Starlink 6.2-inch touchscreen display with an 8-speaker audio system. The vehicle also has 17-inch wheels, Torsen limited-slip differential, and a leather-wrapped shift handle. The Limited model will gain Alcantara leather trim, heated seats, and a security system.

2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata Features & Design

The Mazda MX-5 Miata is a soft-top convertible, while the new MX-5 RF has a retractable fastback body. The trim availability will depend on which body is chosen; the MX-5 Miata is available in the Sport, Club, and Grand Touring. The MX-5 RF is offered in either the Club or Grand Touring trims. Some of the standard amenities will include a push-button ignition, LED headlights, and air-conditioning. A 6-speaker audio system is standard, and it has a USB input. Optional features can include an infotainment system, Bose premium audio system, and heated seating.

The BRZ will offer a phenomenal driving experience during every ride, due to its powerful engine, incredible manual transmission, and well-equipped designs. The sleek design updates and athletic performance have made the 2017 Subaru BRZ a top choice within the segment. The Mazda MX-5 Miata is a commendable option, but it lacks the power of the BRZ and has seating for only two people which makes it less versatile.
