2017 Subaru Legacy vs 2017 Ford Fusion near Philadelphia, PA

When it comes to choosing a comfortable family sedan that also offers plenty of capability for inclement weather conditions, the Subaru Legacy continues to be a great choice. This unique yet refined sedan has come to 2017 with a number of exciting new features, and it retains its fantastic performance in muddy and snowy conditions. Some of those new features found on the Legacy include a new Sport trim, and additions to the EyeSight driver assistance package, with the arrival of Reverse Automatic Braking. Competing against the Legacy is the 2017 Ford Fusion. The Ford Fusion has also received some updates for 2017, including a new Sync 3 infotainment system and some new engine options. If you are wondering which capable sedan is right for you and your driving needs continue reading!

2017 Subaru Legacy Power & Handling

Subaru is well known for offering unparalleled capability, which is made possible by the brand's BOXER engines and outstanding all-wheel drive systems. The Legacy is offered with two engines, and the base configuration will feature a 2.5-liter BOXER four-cylinder engine, which provides 174 lb-ft of torque and 175 horsepower. The amazing all-wheel drive system provides a responsive and dynamic ride in every weather condition, while also working to enhance fuel economy whenever possible. The Legacy has been tested to offer a combined 29 mpg rating with the base configuration, which is one of the best ratings for an all-wheel drive sedan.

2017 Ford Fusion Power & Handling

The Ford Fusion is available with several engine options, but if you are looking for a more capable sedan than you will probably want to opt for the all-wheel drive model. By equipping all-wheel drive with the Fusion, customers will be paying almost $5,000 more than they would pay for a similarly equipped Legacy. All-wheel drive is only offered with the available 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, and this more expensive powertrain will provide up to 240 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque. This increased power, however, will reduce fuel economy, and customers can only expect to get up to 25 mpg combined.

2017 Subaru Legacy Features & Design

The Legacy is offered in five different trim levels, and the base trim is called the 2.5i. Standard equipment is extensive, and Legacy customers can expect to find not only all-wheel drive but 17-inch steel wheels and automatic air-conditioning. The interior boasts the Subaru Starlink technology with a 6.2-inch touchscreen. A four-speaker sound system is linked to an auxiliary audio jack and a USB port. Every Legacy will feature a rearview camera, and customers can equip the innovative EyeSight suite of technology for many great driver assistance features.

2017 Ford Fusion Features & Design

Ford's 2017 Fusion will be available in five different trim levels, called the S, SE, Titanium, Platinum, and V6 Sport. However, the most inexpensive trim available with all-wheel drive is the SE trim. Even though this trim is more expensive than the Legacy, it offers similar features, like 17-inch wheels. The Fusion SE will have a six-speaker sound system and a rear center fold-down armrest. For safety, the Fusion comes standard with a rearview camera, as well as side curtain airbags and stability/traction control.

The 2017 Subaru Legacy and 2017 Ford Fusion are both competitive sedans, but choosing which one is right for you will depend on what you really need. If you need a sedan that is comfortable, equipped with great features, comes standard with all-wheel drive, and offers an amazing low base price, then the 2017 Subaru Legacy is the winner. The Fusion is suitable for drivers who do not mind shelling out extra money for a modest range of additional features, but when it comes down to getting the best value and the most dependable all-weather sedan, the 2017 Subaru Legacy is the top choice.
