The Ascent's Performance

The Ascent has a four-wheel independent suspension, 18-inch wheels, 8.7-inches of ground clearance, a low step-in height and direct fuel injection. There is Active Torque Vectoring, which we first saw on the WRX and WRX STI performance models. The 2.4-liter BOXER engine has a twin-scroll turbocharger and a Subaru Dual Active Valve Control System. The engine produces 260 horsepower @ 5,600 rpm and 277 lb-ft of torque @ somewhere between a 2,000-4,800 rpm range. The above-mentioned CVT has an eight-speed manual mode function, X-Mode with Hill Descent Control and steering wheel paddle shifters.

Safety Features

The EyeSight Driver Assist Technology includes EyeSight Assist Monitor, Pre-Collision Throttle Management, Lane Departure and Sway Warning, Automatic Pre-Collision Braking and Adaptive Cruise Control. Limited and Touring models get standard Steering Responsive Headlights. Available High Beam Assist activates and deactivates your high beams when the system 'thinks' that there is an oncoming vehicle or a vehicle ahead. You may also get the Ascent with Reverse Automatic Braking to apply the SUV's brakes when an obstacle is detected while backing up. Purchasing the Touring trim will get you a Front View Monitor to display a 180-degree view of the vehicle's front.

The Four Trims

Base, Premium, Limited and Touring are this SUV's available trim levels. The base has a 6.5-inch multimedia touchscreen, four USB ports, automatic power door locks, power side mirrorsĀ  and a security system. The Premium has a 5,000-pound towing capacity, Wi-Fi connectivity, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, privacy glass and body-color side mirrors. The Limited gets all the Premium's features, plus LED foglights, second-row retractable sunshades, 20-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, Keyless Access with Push-Button Start and a power rear gate with height memory. The Touring has satin silver side mirrors, chrome door handles, woodgrain-pattern matte finish accent trim, Java Brown leather seats and a total of eight USB ports.
