Subaru is always ahead of the curve when it comes to announcing the lineup for the next model year. Their newest announcement is the 2022 Ascent! First released in 2019, the Ascent is Subaru's three-row SUV with loads of space and fantastic features. New for the 2022 Ascent lineup is the Onyx Edition with its unique exterior and interior accents. The Ascent comes standard with Subaru's world-famous symmetrical all-wheel drive with X-MODE, EyeSight driver assists, and Subaru StarLink Multi-Media. 2022 Subaru Ascent Engine and Drivetrain

Under the hood of the 2022 Ascent is Subaru's 2.4L turbocharged H4 Boxer engine. This gives the Ascent a healthy 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque for a maximum towing capacity of 5,000 pounds with the standard Trailer Stability Assist. The Boxer engine is mated to a high-torque enabled Lineartronic Continuously Variable Transmission. The CVT features steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters with an 8-speed manual mode function for added driver control. The Ascent comes standard with Subaru's symmetrical AWD with X-MODE. The X-MODE feature provides extra slippage prevention by coordinating and optimizing the throttle, transmission, AWD, vehicle dynamics control, and hill descent control systems.

2022 Ascent Trim Levels and Features

The Ascent lineup consists of five variants, Base, Premium, all-new Onyx, Limited, and Touring. An 8-seat layout is standard, while a 7-seat layout with second-row bucket seats is standard on higher trim levels. Ascent Base trim features a long roster of standard features, including raised roof rails, 18-inch alloy wheels, tri-zone front and rear automatic climate control, a 6.5-inch infotainment touchscreen, two front USB ports, two rear USB ports, a backup camera, EyeSight driver assists, and more. The Premium trim levels up with rear privacy glass, body-color side mirrors, an 8-way power driver's seat, heated side mirrors, heated front seats, windshield wiper de-icer, blindspot monitoring, and lane-keep assist. Limited adds keyless entry, push-button start, leather-trimmed upholstery, a 10-way power driver seat with lumbar, a 4-way power passenger seat, second-row sunshades, LED fog lights, chrome accents, and 20-inch alloy wheels. Onyx features an exclusive black exterior and interior accents as well as added safety assists. Ascent Touring tops off the lineup with perforated leather-trimmed upholstery, wood grain dash trim, heated/ventilated front seats, an 8-inch touchscreen, and much more.

2022 Subaru Ascent Safety Features

In addition to standard steering responsive headlights, the Ascent comes standard with EyeSight, Subaru's suite of driver assists. Standard on all trim levels is driver aids like full-speed forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning with lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and pre-collision throttle management. Additional driver aids are available on higher trim levels. Like the Premium, which adds blindspot monitoring, rear cross-path alert, and lane change assist. Meanwhile, the Onyx, Limited, and Touring trims add reverse automatic braking.
