Philadelphia Union and Subaru Partner

Philadelphia Union and Subaru Partner

By Reedman-Toll Subaru

For the first time, Subaru is partnering with a professional sports team for naming rights as the MLS's Philadelphia Union will name their stadium Subaru Park. The Philadelphia Union officially announced the name change on February 18th and it's a multi-year naming rights partnership. As part of the name change to the 18,500 seat stadium, Subaru will become the official and exclusive automotive partner of the Union. Additionally, the two companies are making a commitment to the greater Philadelphia community and will produce a series of charitable programs that will serve as an extension of the Subaru Love Promise vision.

About the Agreement

The agreement between Subaru and the Philadelphia Union marks the first time that Subaru has partnered with professional sports league either in the United States or abroad. Beyond the stadium naming rights, the heart of the partnership is the significant development of community programs that enhance Philadelphia, where charitable organizations are located. The programs will benefit causes that are centered around youth soccer, pet adoption, a pediatric center, and environmental sustainability. It's all part of the Subaru Love Promise company vision, which includes a Subaru Loves the Earth Program that puts a focus on creating a more sustainable environment for fans and the Philadelphia community. It's accomplished via recycling efforts and a community garden that will grow and donate fresh fruits and vegetables to communities in need. Subaru Loves to Help is an effort that provides underfunded communities the equipment and resources needed to become active in the game of soccer in and around Philadelphia. Subaru Loves to Care shows a commitment to support children battling cancer and to support and recognize unsung heroes in our community. It's also a celebration of all walks of life no matter who you are. Finally, the  Subaru Loves Pets initiative is on a mission to unite pets with loving homes and to support pet adoption and animal welfare in and around Philadelphia.

What it means for the Union

The most significant change is the Philadelphia Union's stadium will be named Subaru Park, but the home of the Union will receive numerous upgrades during the 2020 MLS season. For starters, Subaru Park will receive an all-new, high dynamic range scoreboard. It will be the first scoreboard of its kind in any Philadelphia sports venue and the first-ever in the MLS. The new board is 109 ft. X 32 ft. and comes with a 3,440 sq. ft. video surface, which marks a 281% increase in the surface and a 2005 resolution increase. There are also upgraded LED ribbons around the field and the bowl and 200 new monitors throughout the stadium and concourse. Also, there are three new parking lots that the Union acquired during the off-season, which means there will be more space for ticket holders and fans. Finally, the Tunnel Club will now be open throughout the season and offers several game-day experiences throughout the concourse. The Tunnel Club provides fans with several benefits that range from exclusive food and beverages to one-of-a-kind experiences behind the scenes, proximity to the players, and their locker room during the game.
