Subaru WRX Engine is One of Ward's Top 10 Best

Subaru of America Incorporated has been given yet another distinction, when its WRX 2.0-liter turbocharged/intercooled 4-cylinder Boxer engine was named to Ward's 10 Best Engines, a prestigious inclusion. The Ward's Best Engine list is published by Ward's magazine, and recognizes brands who achieve in engineering a high-performance, efficient and drivable engine.


The Subaru WRX has been designed and re-engineered to be an incredible, 268 horsepower when teamed to a six-speed manual transmission or the optional automatic transmission, Subaru's Sport Lineartronic with a manual mode. Each of Subaru's transmissions is mated to a specific version of Subaru's Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, a renowned and efficient system.

The WRX engine from Subaru works to create even more torque and power by using less displacement, and also has a higher fuel efficiency then the previous WRX manual transmission. A new, stiffer chassis is utilized with a wider sedan body design to create a bigger, more comfortable interior. The cabin has been updated, and with the updates to the body, the WRX is super fun to drive.

The editors of Ward have evaluated 37 powertrains, before compiling their top 10 list. The Subaru WRX joins engines from some of the top luxury and sports cars.  The Executive Editor of Wards Auto World digital magazine, Tom Murphy, spoke to the WRX's ability to deliver incredible power within a compact sedan. He further spoke to the importance of the turbocharged 2.0L 4-cyl. BOXER, which makes it the best yet. The engine also contributes to an incredible 28 miles per gallon, when paired with a six-speed manual transmission, making it a super power, fun-to-drive yet efficient engine.

The incredible new WRX 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder BOXER engine utilizes a potent combination of high compression (10.6:1), direct fuel injection, a twin-scroll turbocharger, an intercooler and a Subaru Dual Active Valve Control System (D-AVCS) which creates a super efficient vehicle with stellar performance. The WRX engine boasts 5,600 rpm using 15.0 psi turbo boost to generate 268 horsepower and a broad torque curve that creates 258 lb.-ft over a 2,000-5,200 rpm engine speed range. The WRX engine can rev to a dramatic 6,700-RPM redline, utilizing an equal 86mm stroke dimensions and 86mm bore. The Sport Lineartronic transmission offers 6,500 rpm. Finally, the WRX produces a super thrilling sound with a performance-tuned, special exhaust system.
