Used  Subaru Crosstrek at Reedman-Toll Subaru for Langhorne, PA

The Used Subaru XV Crosstrek looks a lot like the Impreza compact sedan/ hatchback upon which it's based, but the changes made to it are more than cosmetic. The capable little crossover SUV offers up 8.7 inches of ground clearance, just as much as the bigger Subaru Outback, and even more than some "real" off-road vehicles like the Jeep Grand Cherokee. The Crosstrek features standard all-wheel drive; relatively strong off-road capabilities; spacious seating; good fuel economy; generous standard features; stellar safety ratings. Crosstrek is worth a look if you're seeking versatility in a small package.

Under the Crosstrek's Hood

The standard (non-hybrid) 2016 Subaru Crosstrek features a 2.0-liter horizontally opposed "boxer" four-cylinder engine that produces 148 hp and 145 lb-ft of torque. A five-speed manual transmission is standard on 2.0i and 2.0i Premium, as is an all-wheel-drive system with a 50/50 front/rear power distribution. Since it's based on the Subaru Impreza, it's not surprising that the Subaru XV Crosstrek drives similarly. The SUV's suspension errs on the soft side, soaking up bumps and other imperfections nicely, yet somehow managing to feel stable and planted in corners, not swaying too much around bends. Official EPA estimates for the Crosstrek stand at 29 mpg combined (26 city/34 highway) for the CVT, while the manual transmission reduces those numbers to 26 mpg combined (23/31). The Crosstrek Hybrid is the best of the bunch at 31 mpg combined (30/34).

Design of Subaru Crosstrek

The interior gets a new audio system with an improved interface, and EyeSight is available for the first time in the XV Crosstrek. There's also a new base model, the XV Crosstrek 2.0i, for budget shoppers. A rearview camera is now standard across the board. Barring a few minor details, the XV Crosstrek and the Subaru Impreza share the same interior layout. The rear seats offer sufficient legroom for average-size adults and fold flat to yield 51.9 cubic feet of cargo space - considerably more than the Nissan Juke. The XV Crosstrek shuns the utilitarian look of many "compact" SUVs in favor of a more aggressive, dynamic design. The look is spearheaded by Subaru's signature hexagonal grille and hawk-eye headlights, while prominent over-fenders and unique starfish alloy wheels combine to project an athletic stance.

Conclusions

If there is one thing Subaru owners love about their vehicles it is ground clearance. So, when Subaru decided to make a new SUV from its popular Impreza hatchback, they started by raising it to a whopping 8.7 inches. Dynamically, the Crosstrek feels confident and composed on slippery roads, where its standard all-wheel drive and stability control systems make its reactions very predictable. The Crosstrek's extra ground clearance also helps it glide along snowy streets and dirt trails. Subaru Crosstrek comes standard with stability and traction control, antilock disc brakes, front side airbags and side curtain airbags, a driver knee airbag, a rearview camera and active front head restraints. Hybrid models also come with an audible pedestrian alert system that plays a warning sound through a speaker behind the right headlight when only the electric motor is in use.
